Background Information

Brookfield Residential is seeking qualified organizations/individuals to purchase and relocate four buildings in Whittier, CA at the former Fred C. Nelles Youth Correctional Facility. The historic buildings include an Auditorium, Infirmary, Maintenance Garage and Gymnasium.

Buildings offered

The former Fred C. Nelles Youth Correctional Facility is owned by the State of California, and consists of a complex of buildings, structures and sites, which are rendered in a variety of architectural styles.

  • Auditorium


  • Infirmary


  • Maintenance Garage


  • Gymnasium


Brookfield Residential is under contract with the State of California to purchase and redevelop the property as a mixed-use development. The four buildings highlighted (Auditorium, Infirmary, Maintenance Garage and Gymnasium) are being offered for sale and relocation to third parties.

Other buildings are being incorporated into the design of Brookfield’s mixed-use project. These buildings include the Chapels Building, Superintendent’s Residence, Assistant to the Superintendents’ Residence and the Administration building. A number of trees and materials from the Nelles site will also be utilized in the construction of the project.
